Daily Tarot Card Reading – The Devil

This is certainly a difficult card to look upon however it is a card that is needed to consider now more than ever. The version of this card shown here highlights what has gone on for far more than just this “New Era”. It has happened throughout history. The unfortunate, the oppressed, the starving children lay on the floor. One child, the oldest of the group, has his eyes open and is unable to sleep and to find peace. Visions swirl in the backdrop in his mind as he considers his family and their struggles to survive. Within these symbols we see a recurring theme, symbols of power over others, power and opression over those like himself and his siblings. What has caused this lust for power to constantly seduce us throughout the ages, having us turn a blind eye to the pain and suffering we may have caused to others, especially the ones who were not fortunate enough to be born into wealthy and powerful families. I believe one reason is a simple lack of empathy. The idea that in order to get what we want we must ignore the negative impact it may have on our fellow humans. The truth is we cannot truly rise and evolve unless we have empathy for one another, the ability to put ourselves in their shoes and, at the very least, vow to not cause any direct or indirect harm to others, especially to the poor and downtrodden. This card has appeared and, after considering it, we cannot continue to go on the way we have been. We cannot claim ignorance of the impact our actions have on other nations, other races and other people. By having more of something so simple as empathy for others, we can than all rise up and create a new world, one that holds love, peace and compassion as the ideals to strive for, together. Daily Tarot Card Reading – The Devil

Wow! There is definitely a lot going on in this scene. Scary for sure. The Devil shows his lust for power and control. He raises his left arm to command you to bow before him and submit to his greatness. In his right hand he threatens you with a spiked mace which promises you pain if you resist. He shows his roots in the uncontrolled reptilian aspects of our brains represented here by five snakes making up his base. But the saddest part of this image is seeing a man and a woman who have willingly succumbed to the Devils allure and false promises. Unbridled pleasure, fame, power and control over others, the pair at his feet have been fully seduced, have resigned in their struggle to resist, and seem to have accepted their fate. Human beings have been given the amazing gift of free will. It is a power not fully expressed by the rest of life on this planet as lesser evolved beings tend to mostly go by pure instinct and their true nature. Throughout humankind’s long history, we have often succumbed to our animal, barbaric nature, committed acts of extreme cruelty, and caused massive pain and suffering, both to others as well as to ourselves. Why would we do these things if we have free will? Because we have lost our connection to the source, to the Great Spirit/God, to our higher selves, to our inner guiding lights. We seek pleasure above all else and at any cost. Food, alcohol, drugs, tobacco and even sex can all turn into addictions if we are not connected to Spirit. If we don’t courageously hold in our hearts love, compassion, empathy, kindness and goodwill to mother earth and all it’s creatures, then we are destined to follow the path set out by the Devil; one of fear, cruelty, greed, lust and power/control over others.
